About him
I believe I'm seen as outgoing, articulate, well-read and well-informed with a good sense of humour and a ready wit. I'm honest and open and interested in what others think and feel, regardless of my own views. I'm sociable, tolerant and courteous and dread making anyone feel uncomfortable. I'm independent of mind and prepared to say what I think without seeking to offend or diminish anyone. Alongside a teaching career and helping to raise a family (3 boys) I have managed to fit in a variety of interests:
1. Am-Dram. I have appeared in almost 80 productions from comedy to tragedy, farce to revue, Shaw to Shakespeare and back again.
2. Writing: in my spare time I have written and self-published 10 novels and 2 anthologies of my own poetry.
3. Music: I play ukulele, guitar and mandolin with various U3A groups including a little folk band I formed way back when (no, no-one else has ever heard of us. I play for pleasure now, in open-mic nights and folk clubs.
4. Song-writing. I started writing my own songs about 15 years ago and performed them in local venues. I have almost 70 songs on file.
5. I also recorded 7 CDs of my own material at a friend's home recording studio. Amazing what you can do with a laptop, an amplifier and various gizmos.
These self-appraisals always seem a bit sombre and po-faced so I'll finish by saying one of my greatest pleasures is making others smile or laugh (short of splitting their sides which would require an urgent visit to A&E.)
