About her
I live in a quiet village in the South Hams, making occasional forays into towns and cities for a hit of culture. Artistic, gentle and affectionate, I can be a little shy until I get to know people.
I retired from book publishing long ago, and appreciate being able to read whatever I like whenever I like (e.g. Paul Theroux, Mick Herron, Susie Boyt, Rachel Cusk). I love walking, in the lanes, up on Dartmoor or along the coast, and swimming in the sea, provided it isn’t bone-chillingly cold. My roots in the West Country run deep. I have a good network of family and friends in the area, but no children of my own.
I garden sporadically, don’t mind painting and decorating, and can use a power drill and rawl-plugs, albeit reluctantly. I no longer drink alcohol or eat garlic, but won't object if you do. Otherwise, I eat healthily/most things. Cooking for one wears a bit thin.
Apolitical/leftish (why can't people just behave?!). Lapsed Catholic; survivor of convent boarding-school. I speak some Spanish, having spent my early childhood in South and Central America. My spoken French is tentative. I draw, paint and make dry-point etchings.
Slow Horses and Normal People, yes; reality tv and soaps, no. Have seen in concert: Neil Young, The Grateful Dead, The Band, Pink Floyd, Teddy Thompson, Van Morrison et al. More recently, the Devon Baroque Orchestra and Harry Christophers’ Sixteen. I listen to early and baroque music rather than rock these days.
