In Her Own Words

About her

It’s safe to say a perfect weekend for me would include a lie-in (or two), a lazy brunch, a stroll a long a beach (rain or shine) with a quick ocean dip if conditions allow, some hunter-gathering on the allotment and possibly a run or cycle. The whole weekend would be accompanied by delicious food and fine wine. Or just wine. Or gin. Though I do feel the latter is somewhat passť these days. In real life the weekend would also include a visit to the nearest independent cinema followed by dinner at a local hostelry.

I’d like to say I take time out of each day for a moment of reflection and appreciation but that simply isn’t true (plus that’s ten minutes per day I’ll not get back). However I do absolutely love my life and am very grateful for an amazing family and fantastic friends. It just might be even better if someone else was to share it.

I have recently had a slight career change and have returned to the NHS. For some reason, there seems to have been a lot of airtime given to the NHS over the past fourteen months. I’ve no idea why but thought I’d jump on the bandwagon.

I spent several years ‘travelling the world’ (read: going to mainly English-speaking countries where on the whole life wasn’t going to be too challenging) before deciding on a grow-up career. While the phrase “well travelled” is probably appropriate, it does give the impression I resemble a beaten up leather suitcase, ŗ la Paddington Bear.

My time is spent on my allotment (my haven during lockdown), seeing family as often as possible, running/cycling/occasionally walking/swimming and cooking or baking. Our survey says particular favourites seem to be Chelsea buns, veggie lasagne (mozzarella in the cheese sauce - amazing), bagels and a cauliflower tikka masala. Though probably not all in one sitting.

About her ideal match

Well it turns out my ideal match hasn’t yet stepped up to the plate so it’s difficult to give a definitive answer to this. Humour (dry, sarcastic, consistently on the cusp of offending) is at the top of the list and beyond that anything goes. On the subject of dating, a sage old friend of mine advised me to choose the man who irritated me the least. I’m obviously irritated by a lot of people.

Desirable: a penchant for word games.
Deal-breakers: I would struggle with a smoking, philandering, gambling, functioning alcoholic.
